The year 2022 was marked by several notable for Canada Immigration. The three most significant immigration events in Canada this year are reviewed. Canada immigration has greatly contributed to the improvement of the national economy and labour force this year.

Approximately 80% of the country's labor force increased from 2016 to 2021 thanks to immigrants from Canada, according to research from October. As a result, Canada was able to "mitigate the effects of labor shortages in several sectors and regions."

The 2021 Census also revealed the importance of immigration to Canada, revealing that over half (748,120) of those who arrived between 2016 and 2021 were accepted as economic immigrants. Due to the fact that they provide local businesses with qualified workers to meet labor shortages, this group of immigrants has been essential to Canada's economic growth. This leads to better goods and services being delivered, which in turn boosts economic growth by increasing spending.

At the end of the day, immigration has been and will continue to be a significant aspect of life in Canada. The three events from 2022 that represent key milestones in the realm of Canadian immigration are appropriately summarized below, presented in no particular sequence.

1. A record-high percentage of Canadians are immigrants

According to the 2021 census, published in October 2022, the percentage of immigrants in the Canadian population has reached a record high. Those who were landed immigrants or permanent residents of Canada, according to Statistics Canada, are immigrants. This amounts to 8.3 million people or 23.0% of the country's total population.

During the early 1900s, immigrants accounted for 22.3% of the population in Canada, a record that stood for 100 years.

Population predictions and demographic trends indicate that immigrants will account for 29.1% to 34% of Canada's population by 2041.

2. Provincial Nominee Programs are expected to surpass Express Entry as Canada's primary immigration route.

The top immigration route in Canada for many years has been Express Entry.

The Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP) and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) each have their own application management systems; however, the Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP) application management system is now making room for the Canada Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) to replace it as Canada's primary immigration route. This is in accordance with the information made public in Canada's most recent Immigration Levels Plan (2023–25) on November 1, 2022.

There is an expectation that Canada's PNP immigration targets will surpass Express Entry targets in the future.

As stated in the country's most recent Immigration Levels Plan, the PNP targets are at least 900 greater than those established for Express Entry for each of the following three years.

Canada plans to accept 105,500 immigrants through the PNP in 2023 as opposed to 82,880 immigrants through the three categories run under the Express Entry system.

There will be 110,000 PNP immigrants in Canada in 2024, 980 more than the 109,020 applicants for Express Entry.

A further 114,000 immigrants will be accepted through Express Entry in 2025, in addition to 117,500 applications for the Provincial Nominee Program.

3. Canada intends to welcome 500,000 immigrants by 2025.

The newest immigration levels plan for Canada (2023–2025) includes a milestone goal of admitting 500,000 total Canadian permanent residents by 2025.

According to the most recent Immigration Levels Plan (2023–2025) for Canada, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) plan to welcome half a million new permanent residents by 2025 as part of the country's strategy for maintaining its recovery after subpar immigration levels during the peak of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Note that the immigration goals for 2024 and 2025 are flexible and could alter when the next Immigration Levels Plan is unveiled in the fourth quarter of 2023.
