The need for additional control comes in response to an existing immigration backlog in Ottawa and a labour shortfall caused by the pandemic in Saskatchewan.

The steps his government will take to shield Saskatchewan families from the federal policy were described by Scott Moe during his white paper presentation in North Battleford earlier this week.

The premier briefly discussed how the provinces ought to handle immigration throughout the presentation.

Jeremy Harrison, our immigration minister, has already submitted a letter to the federal government outlining our desire to expand Saskatchewan's influence over the origin of our immigrants, Moe said during the conference.

We want more people, first and foremost, Moe remarked. "Secondly, we want additional power over the approval procedure. Third, we'll eventually collaborate with other provinces and wherever these people are from to make sure they have access to training and whatever else they might need to become active members of our community, our economy, and ultimately our society.

The need for additional control comes in response to an existing immigration backlog in Ottawa and a labour shortfall caused by the pandemic in Saskatchewan.

Many highly qualified workers may have to leave the country as their work permits expire with no one to renew them, according to Jason Aebig, CEO of the Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce, because of the individuals waiting to immigrate to Ottawa.

The province's efforts to exert more control over the integration of newcomers into Saskatchewan have our full support, according to Aebig.

Provinces should be given more leeway to bring in their own immigrants, according to Marlou Poquiz of Mycenae Immigration Consultant, because they are more aware of local conditions, particularly in the job sector.

However, when it comes to getting the work visa authorised, the federal government might still reject it, according to Poquiz, who noted that there is now a mechanism where local firms and the province can propose an immigration applicant.

Poquiz remarked, "That doesn't make sense; that has to stop.

He thinks immigration is the best way to help local firms that are experiencing a labour shortage.

Poquiz declared, "We don't have enough workers.”As a nation that is always expanding, we must maintain immigration. Immigration should be the answer for the economy and for businesses.

Justin Trudeau and the federal government have temporarily eased restrictions on the number of hours that international students can work in order to help with the labour crisis.

Prior to Nov. 15, eligible students engaged in full-time study were only permitted to work off campus for a maximum of 20 hours per week.

The temporary measures will be in effect till the end of 2023.
