Canadian citizenship regulations

A person must have been a permanent resident of Canada for at least three of the last five years in order to be eligible to apply for citizenship, under the regulations established by the immigration procedure in Canada. Permanent residents are entitled to several privileges, including the freedom to live and work anywhere in Canada, social security benefits, and legal protection under Canadian laws, but in order to vote or run for public office, a person must be a citizen. Having a Canadian passport also makes it possible to apply for a trade national visa, which permits entry and employment in the USA. Therefore, one would have the choice to work in both nations.
