For the first time since 2020, Canada admitted skilled immigrants from abroad in July, which marked the resumption of the Express Entry system for the Federal Skilled Worker Class. The Canadian Experience Class, the Federal Skilled Workers Program, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program are the three programs run by the Express Entry system (CEC). Based on their Comprehensive Ranking Score, candidates in the Express Entry pool receive invitations to apply (ITAs) (CRS). Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) awards ITAs to candidates who meet the CRS cut-off and are in the Express Entry pool around once every two weeks.

All of this year's Express Entry drawings have been open, selecting applicants from the FSWP and the CEC.

CRS in 2022

The Express Entry pool of 1,500 applicants with a CRS score of at least 557 was invited to participate in draws by the IRCC on July 6.

The number of draws increased over the course of the year (finally reaching 4,750 candidates in the most recent draw), but CRS cut-offs dropped to below 500.

Labour shortages are still widespread across Canada as it struggles to deal with the effects of COVID. Canada has chosen immigration as the main strategy for meeting its urgent economic demands; this is probably what is causing Express Entry to be back in use and the CRS score to start declining in 2022.

What affects the CRS cut-off score?

What CRS cut-offs should be used is entirely under IRCC's control. Accordingly, the department is allowed to determine CRS cut-offs and extend invitations to immigrants in accordance with Canada's economic needs and is not required to follow patterns or trends.

The second thing to consider is an increase in CRS score cut-offs brought on by certain types of applications that are already under consideration. Candidates in the Express Entry pool who receive a strengthened provincial nomination through a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) are eligible to receive up to 600 more CRS points simply for their enhanced provincial nomination.

In a similar vein, candidates in the CEC frequently possess both Canadian educational credentials and Canadian work experience, two elements that can significantly boost CRS scores and skew cut-offs for the overall Express Entry pool.

Canada Express Entry Eligibility

A points-based system is used by the Canada Express Entry Program to assess applications.

Your spouse (if any) and you are scored on the points scale, which has a maximum score of 1200, according to your:

  • Age
  • The highest level of education
  • Language skills
  • Canadian work experience
  • Other work experience
  • Skill transferability
  • Other factors

To be able to apply through the Express Entry program, you must have at least 67 points out of a possible 100 for Express Entry Eligibility.

To categorize candidates seeking permanent residence in Canada, the Canada Express Entry procedure uses a points-based system. Based on a Comprehensive Ranking System, or CRS, clients are given points. Points are awarded to applicants based on their qualifications, prior experience, work status in Canada, and provincial or territorial nomination. The likelihood of receiving an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residency in Canada increases as the number of points increases.

These draws take place on a regular basis. An ITA will be sent to candidates whose CRS score is equal to or higher than the cut-off level. If more than one applicant has a score that is equivalent to the cut-off score, the ITA will be given to the applicant who has spent the most time in the Express Entry pool.

Each Express Entry draw has a minimum cut-off score based on the points system.

What future has in store when it comes to CRS Score?

The trajectory of CRS There is one significant policy shift coming in 2023 that will significantly affect how the CRS will affect immigration, even though we are unsure of what the future CRS cut-offs will be. Bill C-19. This measure, which was passed in June 2022, gives the immigration minister the power to divide the Express Entry pool into categories based on policy objectives and grant ITAs to the applicants in those groups.
