CIC Announces to Accept Pearson Test of English for Canada Immigration

Feb 2, 2023. Canada announced PTE will be 3rd acceptable English language Test for Canadian immigration programs ( FSW, PNP, CEC, and FSTP).

Pearson Test to get implemented by the second half of 2023

Pearson Tests of English (PTE) will shortly be accepted by IRCC as the new Designated English Language test for Canadian immigration programs.

Till Date, Canada was accepting the following English Language Proficiency Tests

1. IELTS – General Training
2. CELPIP - G exam.

Mid of 2023. PTE will be the 3rd acceptable  English Language Proficiency exam. So If you wish to work, migrate, or seek permanent residency in Canada, you can write the PTE exam

Andy Bird, the CEO, of Pearson, announced to introduce the new version of PTE will be known as  PTE -General English test or PTE Essential

PTE Essential is a new version of the Pearson Test of English and it will be very similar to PTE Academic. The main difference is that PTE Essential has a more vocational, real-life, and non-academic focus that satisfies the IRCC's English language proficiency requirements.

You can book PTE tests online up to 24 hours in advance, and receive their results on average within 1.3 days.

Now  IRCC Canada is accepting  below English language tests for Canada Immigration or PR visa:

1. CELPIP – G
2. IELTS – GT
3. PTE – Essential

What is PTE

PTE stands for Pearson's Test of English run by Pearson Canada Inc. It has 2 formats

1. PTE – Academic – for Study
2. PTE Essential or General  - for PR

What is CELPIP

Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP), which is run by Paragon Testing Enterprises Inc.

There are two tests available for the CELPIP:

1. CELPIP-General (CELPIP-G) and
2. CELPIP-General Listening and Speaking (CELPIP-GLS).

For immigration purposes, the IRCC accepts the CELPIP-G exam.

What is IELTS

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is run by the IDP, British council & Cambridge Assessment English. IELTS also has 2 Types

1. IELTS – GT – for Immigration
2. IELTS – AT- for Study prepose

French exam for Canada:

For the French, Canada accepts two following exams

1. TEF Canada: Test d’évaluation de français.
2. TCF Canada: Test de connaissance du français,

The TEF is officially a French exam for Canada. It measures your level of knowledge and skills in French. TEF results are valid for two years.
