Federal government’s Multi-Year Immigration plan (2018-2020) strategies to invite skilled individuals through its two popular programs- Express Entry and Provincial Nomination Programs(s). A total allocation of 67,800 is given to different provincial nominee programs by 2020. Alberta’s allocation has experienced an increase this year. In 2017, the province’s allocation was 5,500. This year it has been increased to 5,600.

Another change that the province has undergone is replacement of its immigration stream- Employer-Driven Stream and Strategic Recruitment Stream with a new Alberta Opportunity stream.

Requirements of Alberta’s new opportunity stream

1)     Arranged Employment

While at the processing stage of your AINP application, you must be having an employment opportunity in Alberta.

This occupation has to be under NOC (National Occupation Code) skill level O, A, B, C and D.

2)     Residency & Work permit

Before you apply for AINP opportunity stream, you must have a valid temporary work permit in Canada.

This should also have a positive LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) as well.

3)     Language proficiency

You must meet the minimum language proficiency for different NOCs.

Yes, under AINP, different NOCs are having different CLB (Canadian language benchmark) requirements.

For instance, in majority of NOCs, requirement is CLB 4. However for NOC 3413, minimum CLB requirement is as high as 7

4)     Qualification

Candidate must be having at least 3 years of educational degree or equivalent. This has to be with a positive Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).

A positive ECA report is necessary for AINP. However, in case your education is from Canada itself, then you need not undergo ECA process.

5)     Work experience

As your work experience, you must be having either of these:

  • At least 12 months of full-time work experience in your current profession inside the province of Alberta within the last 18 months
  • At least 24 months of full-time work experience in your current profession inside Canada and/or abroad within the last 30 months.

6)     Level of Income

The minimum income threshold that has to be maintained by the candidate, depends on the candidate’s family size.
