Australia government has decided to abolish the 457 visa category, the visa which allows an international student to get hired by an Australian employer after their study directly for the period of 4 years. But after the government’s decision to replace it with two new visa category left international students disappointed.
When Australia Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull addressed on social media by saying “Australians must have priority for Australian jobs – so we’re abolishing the subclass 457 visas, the visas that bring temporary foreign workers into our country, we’ll no longer let 457 visas be passports to jobs that could and should go to Australians.
It’s important that businesses still get access to the skills they need to grow and invest. So the 457 visa will be replaced by two new temporary visa specifically designed to recruit the best and the brightest in the national interest.” Many of international students felt their decision was not right to get education in Australia and now they are required to show minimum of 2 years of experience to get the relevant job.
According to the Australian government reports every year country gets nearly $20 billion, from early 2018. The two new visa will only higher Australians and had removed 200 occupations from that visa category. Indians are the major 457 visa holder after United Kingdom and China. The 457 visa is currently being used by hundreds of Indians.
